The Annual Dinner of the Algerian-British Business Council (ABBC)  


Ambassador Lounès MAGRAMANE attended on 24 November 2022, the Annual Dinner organised by the Algerian-British Business Council (ABBC) at the House of Lords, during which he addressed the British business leaders on the economic potential and business opportunities in Algeria.

He also highlighted the positive economic developments in Algeria thanks to several reforms introduced under the wise leadership of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and culminated by a new investment legal framework, which is seen as the most advantageous and attractive that Algeria has ever known.

Algeria participates in the COP26-Glasgow

An Algerian delegation, led by the Minister of Environment, Samia Moualfi, participated in the “COP26”, which took place in Glasgow from 31 October to 13 November 2021.

In her speech addressed on the occasion of her participation in the High-Level Segment, Mrs Moualfi called for a combined efforts as well as consensual and fair solutions to common climate dangers.
She also deplored the slow pace of negotiations and warned against the risks of a worsening of the situation, noting that six years after the adoption of the Paris Agreement, the effects of climate change continue to intensify.

On the sidelines of this event, the Algerian Minister held bilateral discussions with her counterparts from Tunisia, Qatar, Egypt, Uganda, as well as with representatives of UN Convention to combat desertification, UNDP and Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

Business meeting on “UK-Algeria Energy Transition and Roadmap to COP26”

A business meeting on “UK-Algeria Energy Transition and Roadmap to COP26” was jointly organised by the Algerian Embassy in London, Developing Markets Associates (DMA) and the British Embassy in Algiers, on 14th October 2021. The event was held on a hybrid format (in person and online).

Among the participants were: Mr. Abderrahmane Benguerrah, Ambassador of Algeria to the UK, Ms Sharon Wardle, UK Ambassador to Algeria, Lord Richard Risby, Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Algeria, and officials from the Algerian Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy and the Ministry of Energy and Mines, President of CAPC and representatives from the Algerian and British public and private sectors.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Abderrahmane Benguerrah, who underlined “the good timing of this event”, which is being held, few weeks before COP26, highlighted the efforts made by Algeria to promote the development of renewable energies and clean technologies.

Webinar on Cyber Security – Shared Threat and Solutions

The Embassy and Algeria British Business Council (ABBC) organised a webinar, on 29th September, entitled: “Cyber Security – Shared Threat and Solutions”.

Among the participants were: Mr. Abderrahmane Benguerrah, Ambassador of Algeria to the UK, Mrs Sharon Wardle, British Ambassador to Algeria, Lady Olga MaiWebinar on Cyber Security – Shared Threat and Solutionstland, ABBC Chairman, and Officials from the Algerian Ministries of Post and Telecommunications, Interior and National Defense as well as experts and representatives from British companies.

After welcoming the participants and introducing the subject of the webinar, Lady Olga Maitland gave the floor to the speakers.

Webinar on Algeria’s Struggle for Independence

On the occasion of the celebration of the 59th anniversary of the independence of Algeria, the Embassy organised a webinar, on 6th July, entitled: “Algeria’s Struggle for Independence”.

The participants were: Mr. Abderrahmane Benguerrah, Ambassador of Algeria to the UK, Dr Malika Rahal, Historian and Researcher at the Institute of Current History (France), Prof. Martin Evans, Professor of Modern European History, at the University of Sussex, Dr Mahammed Bouabdallah, Lecturer at Westminster University, Dr Elias Boukrami, Director (Content) Global Management at Regent’s University and Mr. Adel Hamaizia, Associate Fellow, MENA Programme at Chatham House, London (as Moderator).

Celebrations of the 59th Anniversary of Independence and Youth Day

The Embassy and the Consulate General organised on the 7th of July, a ceremony to celebrate the 59th Anniversary of Independence and Youth Day (5 July) with the presence of members of the Algerian community in the United Kingdom.

On this occasion, Ambassador Abderrahmane Benguerrah highlighted the significance of this day which marked not only the end of the glorious Algerian revolution from 1954 to 1962 but also the end of a brutal and inhuman occupation which lasted 132 years.

Webinar on the new Hydrocarbon law in Algeria

The Embassy and “Algeria British Business Council” (ABBC) organised a webinar, on 30th June, entitled: “Investing in Algeria: Hydrocarbon Law, 2021” to discuss the new law on hydrocarbon adopted in 2019.

Among the participants at this webinar were: Mr. Abderrahamne Benguerrah, Ambassador of Algeria to the UK, Mr. Alexander Stafford, Member of Parliament and Chair of Algeria British Parliamentary Group, Lady Olga Maitland, ABBC Chairman, Officials from the Algerian Ministry of Energy and Mines, SONATRACH and the Algerian Agency ALNAFT as well as experts and representatives from British companies.
