The Algerian people commemorate, today, 19 th May, the 65 th anniversary of the strike, on May 19, 1956, by Algerian students in support of the call for national struggle against French colonialism and to join the ranks of the Algerian national liberation Army.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Sabri Boukadoum chaired, on 18 May, a virtual Ministerial session of the African Union Peace and Security Council on the situation in Libya. The Algerian Authorities decided on 16  May to re-open partially air borders starting from 1st June with five flights operating daily from and to the airports of Algiers, Constantine and Oran.  The five-flight programme will be adopted under strict anti-Covid-19 preventive measures. The Embassy will inform in due time the Algerian community on the conditions of traveling from the UK to Algeria.     

In a phone call, on 12th May, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sabri Boukadoum and Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, Musa Al-Koni discussed means of strengthening bilateral  relations and prospects for advancing the political process in Libya.

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune received, on Tuesday, 11th May, a phone call from His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al-Thani, who extended to him and to the Algerian people his best wishes on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. For his part, President Tebboune expressed to the Emir of Qatar and to the brotherly Qatari people his best wishes for happiness and prosperity.

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune received, on Tuesday, 11th May, a phone call from the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. On this occasion, they exchanged views on the latest developments in the Palestinian occupied territories and agreed on the imperative cessation of the Zionist aggression against the defenceless Palestinian people and their sacred symbols. The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune received, on Tuesday, 11th May, a phone call from the President of France, Emmanuel Macron. On this occasion, the two Presidents reviewed the bilateral relations and agreed to update the meeting of the High-Level Joint Ministerial Commission. Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum had an exchange with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, ahead of the emergency session of the League of Arab States Council, to discuss Arab action in response to the crimes of the Israeli occupation in the occupied city of Al Quds. On this occasion, they reiterated the necessity of reviving the spirit of Arab-Islamic solidarity to support the Palestinians and to preserve religious Sanctities.

In a phone call, on 10th May, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sabri Boukadoum and Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, discussed developments in the Middle East region, as well as bilateral relations and ways to advance them.
