Algeria’s trade balance deficit recorded a considerable drop of 87.89% during the first eight (08) months of the year 2021, falling to 926 million USD at the end of August 2021 against 7.6 billion USD at the end of August 2020.
This drop is explained by the sharp increase in overall merchandise exports, which rose from 15.1 billion USD at the end of August 2020 to 23.7 billion USD at the end of August 2021, including 2.9 billion USD of non-hydrocarbon exports, said the same source.
Thus, the coverage rate of imports by exports has improved, reaching 96.24% at the end of August 2021, against 66.6% at the end of August 2020.
