Launched in Algeria on Saturday 30th January, anti Covid-19 Vaccination campaign will continue throughout the year

After receiving the first batch of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine (50.000 doses out of 500.000 ordered), Algeria launched its COVID-19 vaccination campaign on Saturday, 30th January, in the city of Blida where the country’s first case of infection with the Coronavirus was confirmed in March last year. A Batch of British AstraZeneca vaccine (50.000 doses) has arrived on the 1st of February.
The national vaccination campaign, which will continue throughout the year, will concern in a first phase the medical staff and people aged over 65 years and chronically ill and other vulnerable people.
In addition to the vaccine doses ordered, Algeria will also receive, under the Covax scheme, between 12 and 16 millions Coronavirus vaccine doses, which is likely to ensure vaccination of 20% of the population.
