Annual Meeting of the Algerian-British Business Council (ABBC)

The Algerian-British Business Council (ABBC) held its annual meeting on 13th November 2024, at the House of Lords in Parliament to celebrate relations between Algeria and the United Kingdom.

The event brought together the Algerian Ambassador, the Embassy officials, and prominent British political and parliamentary figures, including Baroness Symons, former Minister of State for Trade and Foreign Affairs with responsibility for the MENA region and President of the Arab-British Chamber of Commerce, Mr. John Humphrey, UK Trade Commissioner for Africa, former British Ambassador to Algeria, Martyn Roper; and the newly appointed Ambassador, Mr. James Downer.

The meeting also included representatives from economic groups and British and Algerian business leaders, all invited to celebrate the partnership between the two countries. Remarks by British dignitaries, particularly Baroness Symons and ABBC President Lady Olga Maitland, were notably positive, highlighting Algeria’s attractiveness and the business-friendly environment established by the new Investment Code.

For his part, Mr. John Humphrey, UK Trade Commissioner for Africa, reassured potential investors, emphasising that he would support them through every stage of the process, in line with his mission to promote British commercial interests worldwide. The final speaker, Yacine Bouhara, Head of the Tell Group Investment Fund, addressed trade relations, expressing hope to see high-quality Algerian products expand into the British market.
