The Ambassador of Algeria to the United Kingdom and Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), H.E Yazid Noureddine, participated in the 33rd Ordinary Session of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), held in London from 27th November to 6th December 2023. This session was attended by more than 1,400 delegates and more than 75 ministers and vice ministers representing 170 member countries of the organisation.
In his address to the Assembly, the Ambassador highlighted the organisation’s pioneering role in ensuring safe, secure, and pollution-free navigation, especially during this sensitive period, marked by escalating armed conflicts that threaten commercial navigation in particular. He also commended the efforts made by member states to implement the strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector.
The Ambassador also mentioned on this occasion Algeria’s efforts to develop and promote its maritime sector, which is a pillar of economic development through the comprehensive national maritime sector strategy. Finally, he congratulated the new Secretary-General, Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, on his election to head the organisation, affirming Algeria’s readiness to work with him during his term, which extends to 2028.
