The Algerian people celebrate the National Day of the Algerian Muslim Scouts and commemorate the 80th anniversary of the martyrdom of Mohamed Bouras, founder of the Algerian Muslim Scouts. The Algerian Muslim Scouts is one of the most illustrious Algerian institutions and a school of patriotism.

The Algerian Authorities has set out, on 25th May, measures to partially reopen  air borders starting from June 1st. Sonatrach signed on 17th May a Memorandum of Understanding with the Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor to strengthen the existing partnership in oil exploration and production in Algeria and beyond. The new deal also includes a partnership on new technologies and environmental protection in current and new projects, particularly emissions reduction and carbon capture, improvement of recovery figures and development of a flexible operating model.

In his address to the United Nations General Assembly Meeting on the Situation in Palestine on 20 th May, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sabri Boukadoum, called on the UN Secretary General to declare a state of humanitarian emergency in the occupied territories of Palestine to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians and reconstruct Gaza.

The Algerian people commemorate, today, 19 th May, the 65 th anniversary of the strike, on May 19, 1956, by Algerian students in support of the call for national struggle against French colonialism and to join the ranks of the Algerian national liberation Army.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Sabri Boukadoum chaired, on 18 May, a virtual Ministerial session of the African Union Peace and Security Council on the situation in Libya. The Algerian Authorities decided on 16  May to re-open partially air borders starting from 1st June with five flights operating daily from and to the airports of Algiers, Constantine and Oran.  The five-flight programme will be adopted under strict anti-Covid-19 preventive measures. The Embassy will inform in due time the Algerian community on the conditions of traveling from the UK to Algeria.     

In a phone call, on 12th May, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sabri Boukadoum and Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya, Musa Al-Koni discussed means of strengthening bilateral  relations and prospects for advancing the political process in Libya.

The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune received, on Tuesday, 11th May, a phone call from His Highness the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Ben Hamad Al-Thani, who extended to him and to the Algerian people his best wishes on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. For his part, President Tebboune expressed to the Emir of Qatar and to the brotherly Qatari people his best wishes for happiness and prosperity.
